Staurosirella

Staurosirella species can be oval, elongated, or cruciform.  They tend to have broad striae, and they may be found in linked colonies.  They attach to hard surfaces on the water's bottom or on plants.

S. leptostauron var. dubia

  • Cells are 4-38 µm in length, 3.5-6.5 µm in width.

  • Rows of striae are 6-10 per 10 µm.

  • Valves are heavily silicified. Striae are broad and parallel at the middle, radiating towards the edges.
